Overview
The Recollection Project is a unique initiative focused on fostering intergenerational connections through shared memories and storytelling. In my role as a Graphic Design Intern, I engaged in a multitude of design projects that spanned the entire creative process. This encompassed strategic planning, prototyping, and the execution of designs. The organization's mission included creating collaborative activity packages, promotional materials, and website planning for Storytelling Sessions, which were central to its community outreach efforts.
Responsibilities
Upon joining the Recollection Project, I undertook a comprehensive review of their website, existing files, and a presentation to the Alzheimer’s Association. This immersive onboarding process aimed to familiarize me with the organization's goals and the scope of my responsibilities. The initial focus was on strategizing and developing a promotional package for Storytelling Sessions, a crucial aspect of the organization's outreach in the Oswego community for older adults.
Storytelling Sessions Promo
A significant portion of my internship involved actively contributing to the promotion of Storytelling Sessions. This included the creation of visually compelling images and graphics tailored for various social media platforms. The goal was to not only enhance participation but also to generate awareness and excitement around these storytelling events. Through this work, I gained practical experience in crafting materials that resonate with the target audience and drive engagement.
Storytelling Sessions Landing Page
Collaborating closely with my supervisor, I played a key role in developing a dedicated landing page for Storytelling Sessions on the Recollection Project's website. This strategic webpage functioned as a comprehensive resource, addressing common queries, dismantling participation barriers, and providing essential information. The planning phase informed my design process, and I translated prototypes into the practical realm using the WordPress website building tool.
DIY Kit Production
An integral project during my internship was the revitalization of the Recollection Project's "DIY Kit." This kit featured a range of storytelling activities for families and caregiving facilities catering to older adults. My responsibility was to ensure that existing materials aligned with accessibility and branding standards. This involved a meticulous review of activity instructions and substantial editing of images for a deck of storytelling object cards.
